Country Giant Don Williams Comes to Pigeon Forge
The Gentle Giant is coming to town. Country superstar Don Williams will be performing at the Country Tonite Theatre in Pigeon Forge on October 18th and 19th. Williams was dubbed the “Gentle Giant” because of his imposing build, bass-baritone voice and laid back demeanor. With over 50 major hits in his repertoire, this giant of country music will put on a Pigeon Forge show you don’t want to miss.
From Folk to Country
Don Williams was born in Floydada, Texas in 1939. Having learned to play the guitar at age 12, Don built an appreciation for many different musical genres as he performed in folk, country and rock bands throughout his youth. During the mid 60s, Williams had his first brush with fame as part of the pop folk trio The Pozo Seco Singers.
Solo Success
After working as a songwriter in the early 70s, Don Williams embarked on a hugely successful solo career. From 1974 to 1991, Williams had at least one major hit each year, including “Tulsa Time”, “Good Ole Boys Like Me”, “Amanda” and “You’re My Best Friend”. Don was named the CMA Male Vocalist of the Year in 1978, and in 2010, Williams was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Music For Everyone
William’s music is characterized by its honesty and accessibility. Appealing to both men and women, Williams’s songs have been embraced in such diverse countries as Britain, Brazil, Finland, and Kenya. As Don notes, “I don’t change my shows to go play England or Nairobi. I can pretty much choose anything from my repertoire and it works wherever”. Anyone who sees Don perform will understand why his music touches people around the world.
